Shandong Jiaotong University (STU), founded in 1956, is a general undergraduate college. The chief mission of STU is to cultivate integrated transportation talents of "Road, Sea, Air and Rail". In 2011, STU was approved by the State Council as a pilot site for cultivating professional degrees. In 2013, she was approved to be a special construction unit of higher education in Shandong Province. She is also a strategic research unit for the reform of universities of applied technology directed by the Chinese Education Ministry. STU is a “Top 50 Typical Experience of College Graduates Employment".
Over the years, the Weihai campus (STUW) has been adhering to the motto" illustrious virtue, utmost goodness, investigation of things and completion of knowledge", carrying forward the fine school spirit of "strictness, respect, diligence and comprehensiveness", promoting "school loving, dedication, practice and innovation” and playing an important role in cultivating the navigation and international business talents to make a positive contribution to the economic and social development.
With the well-conditioned facilities and distinctive majors, STUW consists of more than 200 staff, of which are 60% “double-qualified” teachers holding the certificates of competency for masters and chief engineers. SDTU is composed of 3 schools and 1 basic teaching department, 15 undergraduate majors and 5 professional master training directions, among which shipping and marine engineering major is a provincial specialty. Together with the navigation major, they also supported by governmental finance. In addition, vehicle application engineering and transportation planning and management are two key disciplines of Shandong’s 12thfive-plan. There are more than 30 large-scale key laboratories, of which the shipping and marine transportation laboratory is the research and innovation platform construction project of Shandong’s 12thfive-plan.
The campus enjoys a high degree of internationalization, cooperating with, setting up mutual sub-campus, realizing the mutual recognition of credits, mutual visiting and joint training with University of Michigan, University of Portsmouth, Burma Maritime University and so on.
SDTW has a strong ability of industry-university-research cooperation. Relying on the regional advantages of Weihai Shuangdao Bay Scientific Technology Town, she serves for the “Belt and Road” strategy, the strategy of Shandong Peninsula Blue Economic Zone and the construction of China-Korea FTA and China-Australia FTA. In addition, SDTW has set up many industry-university-research platforms and high-level water sports centers. SDTW has the level II and level III evaluation qualifications for the transportation enterprise safety production standardization. In 1999, according to the STCW convention of the International Maritime Organization (IMO), the educating and training management system of the crew was established and certified by the National Maritime Safety Administration. With more than 20 crew training qualifications, SDTW has been a training base for intermediate and advanced seafarers in Shandong Province.
In recent years, the campus has cooperated with many enterprises, including Shanghai Taihua Ship management Co., Ltd，Yichang Marine Diesel Engine Co., Ltd, Beijing Zhengyi Mobile Internet Technology Co., Ltd and so on. They have signed mutual agreements, established practicing and training bases to improve students’ cognitive and practicing skills. In addition, SDTW has formed a stable supply and demand cooperation with some “Top 500 enterprises in the world”, such as China Ocean Shipping Company, China Cosco Shipping Group. The supply and demand ratio of graduates has remained above 1:2.5 for over 10 years, and the employment rate is 100%.
